I wanted to love this book but it fell short of my expectations. The story of Angelo building David the statue, is a weak plot line. It is muddled with lots and lots of history about rivaling factions trying to rule Florence. This book is more about these groups than about the statue. I wanted to learn more about Angelo, sculpting, art etc but the author spent 70% of her time describing the different plots, spying and intracies between the waring groups. This was interesting but now why I chose the book.
